"SATEI: A place to experience the town spirit.History of new things"
Invite you to our residence with the spirit of tea and create our time with you.
Kyoto, a place of both traditional and progressive spirit.
For more than a thousand years, it has always been at the forefront of culture, seeking, incorporating and enjoying "new things."
Miyako in Kyoto can be said to be a place where new things are constantly gathering, both domestically and internationally, and a new culture is born by fusing with the existing culture.
From a long time ago, 'Relics' have been the attraction of this ancient city. However, they have always continued to challenge new things and from the reiterations, tradition is changed and history is made.
At the SATEI (= tea house), which welcomes you with the tea ceremony of Chanoyu , with the host and guest unified in the spirit of Kyoto, we endeavor to provide you with the best experience.
From touching the side of Kyoto that focuses on "new things" rather than "what remains", you will be filled with an excitement for adventure. New experiences await you.
Loving the new
Making the tradition
The side of Kyoto people who likes new things has shaped this town, as can be seen in many examples.
Japan's first elementary school, Japan's first hydroelectric power plant, Japan's first movie screening, Japan's first sailor suit, and Japan's first Ekiden race also started at Sanjo Ohashi in Kyoto.
The traditional buildings such as shrines and temples that have remained since long ago were also built using the latest technology and designs of the time.
The traditions that make up Kyoto are also accumulations of what was cutting-edge.
New design
Which will become tradition
Aiming for a timeless design in which "new things" will eventually become a tradition, we have focused getting the details just right.
We removed anything unnecessary from newly built products and aimed to create products that would not fade with age. By adding ancient natural materials to points of design and applying handicraft here and there, new things are given a special depth.
We hope that our guests will feel the "history of new things".
Inspired by the grid of Kyoto
Agora Kyoto Shijo four-sided Tea Pot
The Tea Pot that you can see first when you enter from the entrance is custom made by a Tea Pot master. Agora Kyoto Shijo is located at the intersection of Shijo-dori and Aburanokoji-dori, and the Tea Pot, which is the symbol of "Agora Kyoto Shijo," was designed with the inspiration of the streets of Kyoto. It has an orderly beauty like the cityscape of Kyoto, and while it has modern and sharp lines, it has a softness contrasting the iron material.
Expressing the flow of water and wind
Agora Kyoto Karasuma hexagonal Tea Pot
For "Agora Kyoto Karasuma", we custom made a hexagonal Tea Pot from the number 6 which is related to many temples and shrines in Kyoto. The vertical stripe pattern that flows along the corner expresses the water that springs from the veins of Kyoto, which brings the famous water used for the tea ceremony, and the flow of the wind. It is a Tea Pot that while gives a modern impression also makes people feel the deep traditions.

With the townhouses that nurture the lively and gorgeous Kyoto townspeople culture that has accumulated history in this area for a long time as a source of inspiration, we have designed a lively and gorgeous design where the Kyoto townspeople gather and spend time together.
Agora Kyoto Karasuma
The grace of Sukiya-zukuri.
Nishinotoin-dori, which faces Agora Kyoto Karasuma, was the center of commerce and industry during the Muromachi period.
Imagine the graceful items that would have been carried to the Imperial Palace and the aristocratic mansion through here, we have designed this hotel with the inspiration of the sukiya-zukuri.
